Kyoto Fund

The Italian Government announced the establishment of a Kyoto Fund, in its “first 100-day” report. Its aim is to channel funds of €600 m., through the support of the banking system and particularly the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (70% state-owned), to energy efficiency measures implemented by SMEs.

The Fund was first announced in 2007 and has also been mentioned in Italy’s National Renewable Energy Plan of 2010, but no real action was taken.

According to WWF Italia, this is an important measure for the adoption of significant energy efficiency measures by the private sector and describes the Kyoto Fund as a green economy “turbo” boost for Italy.
