Portugal car market

The strong framework of incentives for the purchase of electric cars that gave Portugal a leading position in the promotion of climate friendly new technologies has not been effective in boosting demand. The economic recession results in reduced car sales has hit hard the electric car market.

Despite the promising agreements signed between the previous Government and manufacturing giants such as Nissan and Renault and the satisfactory network of 1,026 charging stations throughout the country, only 231 e-cars have been sold since the beginning of 2011.
