Portugal to remove support to green energy?

The Portuguese Government is taking environmentally risky steps to reduce the overall cost of electricity.

Constituting a commitment towards the IMF-EC-ECB bailout package, Portugal is expected to cap energy subsidies for an anticipated cutback of

€100m and €200m.  According to Economy Minister Alvaro Santos Pereira, "For the first time the state is reducing costs in the energy sector. All power producers will have to contribute."

APREN, the Association of Renewable Energy, says that "the measures are being rushed [by the government] in without consultation with the stakeholders". Environmental NGO Quercus says these changes  would destroy Portugal's green industry.
